South Carolina – Three law enforcement agencies in South Carolina will get part of the $139 million federal grant for hiring new workers within the agencies.

Reportedly, the three South Carolina departments will get $1.5 million as part of a federal program that supports community policing.

The grants are part of the U.S. Justice Department’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Service and the more than $139 million being awarded across the nation will hire more than 1,000 new officers.

According to the current plan, the three South Carolina departments that will get federal grants are as follows:

  • North Myrtle Beach – $750,000 to hire six officers
  • Williamsburg County – $423,000 to hire three deputies
  • Yemassee – $230,000 to hire two officers
