City of Charleston once again opening warming center Tuesday night

With cold weather once again expected in the Lowcountry on Tuesday night, the City of Charleston is operating a warming center for the second night in a row.

The center, located at the Arthur W. Christopher Community Center at 265 Fishburne Street, will give the homeless a place to escape the cold.

Cots, pillows, blankets, dinner and breakfast will be provided to up to 80 men, women and children.

On Monday night, 37 people utilized the center.

CDC guidelines will be followed to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Each guest will have their temperature taken and social distancing will be followed.

Masks will also be provided and must be worn at all times.

The center will open at 8 p.m. and visitors must check in by 11 p.m. It will close at 7 a.m. on Wednesday.

CARTA will offer free service to the warming center.
