Covid-19 in South Carolina stabilizing as daily cases and number of active cases drop, DHEC reports

South Carolina – It seems like the Delta is slowly becoming a past across South Carolina since the number of active cases is constantly decreasing, as well as the number of active cases.

Another proof about that is that some school districts decided not to enforce mask mandates in schools anymore since the number of positive cases in students is also decreasing recently.

According to the latest daily Covid-19 report issued by DHEC on Tuesday, South Carolina added 613 new positive cases. 474 cases confirmed through PCR tests and another 139 detected through rapid tests.

The data shows the results from tests taken 48 hours earlier.

The report additionally shows two reported Covid-19 reported deaths. One victim was reported in Darlington County, while the other in Horry County.

The positivity rate among all conducted tests was 5.10%. A total of 14,248 tests were conducted two days ago.

Since the start of the pandemic, South Carolina added a total of 888,189 COVID-19 cases and 13,321 COVID-19 related deaths.

712,424 cases were detected using PCR tests and 175,765 detected with rapid tests.

When it comes to deaths, 11,533 deaths classified as “confirmed” and an additional 1,788 classified as “probable.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says a “probable” death is defined as a death that:

  • Meets clinical criteria and epidemiologic linkage with no confirmatory laboratory testing performed for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
  • Meets presumptive laboratory evidence
  • Meets vital records criteria with no confirmatory laboratory evidence for SARS-CoV-2.
