Covid-19 was the third-leading cause of death in the U.S. in 2020

Charleston, South Carolina – According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data, Covid-19 was the third-leading cause of death in US in 2020.

Out of 3.4 million deaths last year, experts say that at least 378.000 died as a result of Covid-19 which is 11% of the total number.

Cancer and heart diseases remain the main causes of death, a trend that is known for years now.

Up to date, the total number of positive cases rose up to more than 30 million, while the deaths number rose to more than 550k.

The numbers are constantly high lately despite the fact that the vaccination process continues at high frequency.

As of March 31st, nearly 50% of the people over-65 are fully vaccinated. Almost 29% of the total population has received at least one dose of the vaccine.

Officials expect the number of new cases to drop in the upcoming period.
