Gun violence still an issue in the Lowcountry, lawmakers hosting another forum in an effort to address community gun violence

Charleston, South Carolina – As we already reported back in June, the gun violence cases have been on the rise in the last couple of years causing more deaths and safety insecurity for the local community.

The most alarming thing is the fact that most of the offenders are repetitive criminals with decent criminal record, yet they are released on a bond very often.

Following the trend, Lowcountry lawmakers are about to host another forum in an effort to address the gun violence in the community.

State Representatives Wendell Gilliard (D-Charleston) and Marvin Pendarvis (D-Charleston) are leading the gathering at 1 p.m. at Trident Technical College, Building 811, Room 182 in downtown Charleston.

The hosts confirmed that numerous community leaders will take part in the conversation including Charleston Police Chief Luther Reynolds and City Councilman Robert Mitchell.

“We must continue to bring the community together to discuss these issues and find solutions,” Representative Gilliard said. “It has been a violent summer in Charleston, and we must do everything we can to stop the shootings.”

“The community is hurting right now,” Representative Pendarvis said. “To find solutions to terrible problems like gun violence, community involvement is key.”

This is not the first time for the same lawmakers to host an event regarding the gun violence in the Lowcountry area. Their previous event of this kind took place in late July.

Everyone is invited to join the conversation and discuss the issue.
