Intoxicated driver caused the deadly crash in Ravenel area early Sunday morning, arrested and charged

Charleston County, South Carolina – The 29-year-old Jose Ramirez-Sandoval was arrested and charged with two counts of felony DUI resulting in death after the sobriety test showed he was driving intoxicated following the deadly crash early Sunday morning.

Charleston County Sheriff’s spokesman Andrew Knapp said deputies responded on Highway 165 near Shilelagh Oaks Parkway in the Ravenel area shortly after 1 a.m. following a 911 call in regards to a serious traffic crash.

“They determined that a northbound GMC pickup had crossed the center line and struck a northbound Chevrolet van head-on,” Knapp said.

The driver and the passenger of the van were entrapped and later pronounced dead at the scene. Ramirez-Sandoval was the driver of the GMC pickup and a field sobriety test showed that he was intoxicated.

He was transferred to a local hospital for treating an injury he suffered in the crash and will be booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center upon his release from the hospital.

The identities of the victims were not immediately released by the authorities.

There is ongoing investigation about the deadly crash. Once more details are available, we will update the story.
