Local non-profit is asking the community to help the homeless as they are giving out gifts for the holidays

Charleston, S.C. – Uplift Charleston, a local non-profit organization, has once again surprised the homeless in the area after they gave away numerous gifts to the homeless population in Charleston.

However, they don’t plan to stop and are asking the community to help them with their giveaway during the holiday weekend as they will continue to accept wrapped gifts and donations to give the homeless over the weekend.

The Lowcountry’s homeless population can be found from Summerville all the way to Downtown Charleston, according to Aaron Comstock, Founder of Uplift Charleston.

“It’s sad because we do see that too often is that they are the voiceless and the ignored too often,” Comstock said. “We just don’t see enough dedication to that problem.”

Comstock is aware that Christmas gifts won’t solve these people’s problems, but he tries to make them feel a little bit better for Christmas just like any other person. According to him, this is something that “our homeless brothers and sisters” don’t always experience.

“There are people out there who do not get gifts, and something to unwrap and something to make them feel loved, a lot of them don’t have family around here,” Comstock said.

The gits are usually things these people need the most. Comstock says that he mostly gives necessities like blankets, scarves, gloves and sleeping bags to bus passes and food gift cards.

“Even a $5 to $10 fast food gift card will help,” Comstock said.

To make it easier for those who want to donate and help the homeless during the holidays, the non-profit partnered with multiple breweries across the area where anyone can leave packages for the homeless. From there, the gifts will be distributed to these people.

Those locations are Frothy Beard in West Ashley, Holy City Brewery, Low Tide Brewery, Oak Road Brewery and Hobcaw Brewery.
