Lowcountry man plans to run 100 miles in 30 hours to raise $10,000 for a local food bank

Charleston, South Carolina – In an effort to raise money for the Lowcountry Food Bank, local resident plans to run 100 miles in 30 hours.

According to Eric Van Scoik, he plans to raise $10,000 for the Lowcountry Food Bank.

“The Lowcountry Foodbank is a really great organization, so to be able to bring extra eyes and attention to their mission and help them with that, especially during COVID, seemed like a really cool benefit,” said Eric Van Scoik.

Van Scoik has raised money and helped those in need in several occasions in the past, but nothing compares to the 100-miles-long run.

“Specifically for the Lowcountry Food Bank – is to use the spectacle of running 100 miles which is kind of an unusual thing- to bring attention to something that is bigger or more important than the fact that I as one person running 100 miles,” said Van Scoik.

Van Scoik aims to raise $10,000 which he believes will be enough to provide more than 60,000 meals for those in need.

“Being well fed and having the nutrition you need, is just so critical to doing anything else that you want to do. It is such a foundational piece in being able to get along, and they have really fantastic programming,” said Van Scoik.

However, Van Scoik knows that it won’t be an easy task and it will take months of preparation, both mental and technical.

Those who want to follow every single step of the preparation process might visit this link as Van Scoik is documenting every single step of his journey.
