Man indicted on drug trafficking charges, resulting in death of a woman

Charleston, South Carolina – One man was indicted by a federal grand jury in Charleston on Tuesday, for trafficking drugs, which resulted in the death of a 24-year-old woman.

The Charleston Police Department teamed up with the Drug Enforcement Administration and conducted an investigation that led to the arrest of 21-year-old Hasib Muqsit-Rivers.

Authorities say Muqsit-Rivers handed out fentanyl to a 24-year-old woman during a Halloween party in November of 2020. The woman was later found dead from an apparent drug overdose, and a drug test indicated she had a significant amount of fentanyl in her blood. The footage from security cameras captured the drug distribution.

Further investigation showed the victim had obtained drugs from the dealer on several occasions, including cocaine and crack.

According to the information submitted to the court, Muqsit-Rivers was arrested while he was out on bail for a state armed robbery accusation.

As a result of the federal charge, Muqsit-Rivers faces a mandatory minimum term of 20 years in prison and a maximum term of life, a fine of $1,000,000, and court-ordered supervision for a minimum of three years upon potential release.

He is being held without bail awaiting the outcome of the federal charges against him.
