Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Charleston

Charleston, SC – Veterans from Charleston that are looking to protect themselves from the Coronovirus can now be vaccinated in the VA Medical Center as first dosage of Moderna’s vaccine has arrived today.

The center confirmed the arrival of the vaccine in Tuesday morning.

These are great news for the VA center as last week they were informed that will not get part of the first shipment of Pfizer’s vaccine.

“Our local Vaccine Taskforce has been preparing for months and developing a distribution plan,” Erin Curran, Public Affairs specialist for the Charleston VA, said at the time. “We have the proper equipment on hand and we are ready to distribute the vaccine as soon as it arrives at our medical center.”

Two doses are required of both Moderna and Pfizer vaccines. Both vaccines has shown high efficacy rates in the testing phases. The difference is that Moderna’s vaccine is much easier for storage and transportation as it doesn’t require ultra-cold storage, while that is not the case with the Pfizer’s.

As of now, there is no information when the VA center in Charleston will begin with the vaccination process.
