More than 61% of South Carolinians have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccines, more than half fully vaccinated

South Carolina – The state of South Carolina still lags behind when it comes to the vaccination rate compared to majority of the states, but the vaccination rate is slowly and surely improving.

According to the latest data provided by the DHEC, more than half of those eligible are now fully vaccinated across the state.

That said, the state has reached a 53.5% vaccination rate among those who are approved to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Fully vaccinated are considered those who have received two doses of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or two weeks after one dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

According to the same report by DHEC, 61.4% of South Carolinians have received at least one dose of the Pfizer or Moderna’s vaccines.

DHEC added that Charleston County is the first on the list when it comes to vaccinated people per 10,000 residents, while Georgetown and Horry County are second and third on the list respectively.

On the negative side, South Carolina ranks 39th in the country when it comes to vaccination rate, while 17^th when it comes to positivity rate.

A Wallet Hub study ranked South Carolina as the seventh least safe state during COVID-19. The study based the state’s ranking in 45th place on four COVID-19 individual rankings from data available as of 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

On the positive side, South Carolina has one of the lowest death rates ranking 47^th on the list (fifth lowest in the country) and ranking 37^th when it comes to hospitalization rate.

Connecticut ranked as the safest, with Massachusetts, California, Rhode Island and the District of Columbia rounding out the top five. Of South Carolina’s nearest neighbors, North Carolina ranked 36th safest and Georgia ranked 43rd safest.

As of Wednesday’s update on new cases, South Carolina’s death toll from COVID-19 stood at 13,093, of which 11,336 deaths were listed as confirmed and another 1,757 deaths as probable.

While the number of new cases and hospitalizations is declining, health experts warn that we are still far away from the end of the pandemic and urge everyone to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
