New York toddler dies after falling into septic tank at family friend’s home

Cherokee County, South Carolina – A two-year-old boy from New York died after falling into a septic tank while paying a visit to family friends with his mother and two siblings.

Emergency crews were sent to the home in Gaffney, the seat of Cherokee County, in response to a report of a child stuck in a septic tank.

The toddler’s mother realized that she had not seen her son for a while and started looking for him. While walking in the yard searching for him, she saw the lid of a septic tank was upside down.

When the lid of the septic tank was taken off, the toddler’s pacifier was found floating on the surface of the tank.

Crews recovered the body of the 2-year-old and life-saving techniques were performed in an effort to save his life. The boy was taken to Cherokee Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The toddler was identified as Hawkins Dusty Abercrombie.

Additional information regarding this incident was not released.
