Religious man sets house on fire, hurts mother and kills brother for not following the Bible

A 40-year-old man was arrested and charged with multiple counts of capital murder and arson last Friday, for allegedly setting his house on fire and killing his brother while his mother suffered severe burn injuries, police say. According to them, he set the couch on fire to rid the home of “evil.”

The suspect, 40-year-old P. Mills, was immediately arrested after the incident and was questioned by authorities. He reportedly said that he is a religious person and he broke a TV in the home and later set a couch on fire to rid the home of “evil.”

The incident happened in Texas house and the man confessed he did what he had to do because his family was not following the Bible.

Mills’ brother was pulled out of the house in a critical condition by the fire crews who arrived at the scene, but was pronounced dead at the hospital. His 82-year-old mother who barely walks, was able to escape the house before it’s too late, but she was kept in hospital for treatment, burns and smoke inhalation. Her condition is unknown.

” Mills set fire to the inside of his home and fled, leaving his mother and brother inside the burning residence,” local police said in a statement, according to Fox.

“The defendant states that he left the residence and allowed his mother to be in a ‘happy place’ throughout the day and waited for both his mother and brother to go to bed, before starting the fire,” police officials added.

A neighbor who lives just next to victims’ house said that he and his family ran out to see what is going on. When they got outside, the neighbors’ house was already engulfed in flames and they couldn’t enter the house to help the victims.

“He would leave and come back, then leave, and come back stay a couple of months,” the neighbor said.

Mills allegedly said it was a “failed attempt” to the authorities when they informed him that his mother survived.

Mills was held in jail on $2.5 million bond.
