School crossing officer with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office injured in auto-pedestrian accident in Mount Pleasant

School crossing officer with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office suffered injuries after he was struck by a vehicle on Coleman Blvd. in Mount Pleasant Friday morning, police say.

According to the incident report, the accident took place on Coleman Boulevard near Simmons Street around 8:30 a.m.

The officer that injured in the accident was transferred to a local hospital for treatment and he suffered non-life-threatening injuries. His condition is stable, Capt. Chip Googe with the Mount Pleasant Police Department said.

Today’s incident with the crossing officer who assists students who attend Moultrie Middle School, was the first incident at this intersection in the last couple of years.

“There have been two other known reports of CCSO school crossing officers being struck by a vehicle in the past five years,” said Andrew Knapp, public information officer for the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Knapp, there have been only two other incidents involving school crossing officers officially reported in the last five years and both of them took place in January last year.

The investigation about the incident is ongoing.

Once more details are available, we will update the case.
