Since it’s delivering amazing results, DHEC encourages eligible South Carolinians to use the monoclonal antibodies treatment against Covid-19

South Carolina is among the states where residents are able to take advantage of the monoclonal antibodies treatment after delivering great results in other states especially Florida, the first state that decided to use the treatment in the peak of the Delta wave in August.

Now the DHEC officially announced that encourages everyone to take advantage of the treatment including the clinics, pharmacies as well as eligible patients who are in the early stages of the infection.

When the treatment was initially introduced in South Carolina, the state’s clinics and pharmacies faced shortage, but now that issue is gone, DHEC claims.

“Where even just a few weeks ago, South Carolina was struggling to get enough doses of monoclonal antibody treatments to meet the demand of the recent Delta surge, we now have enough supplies of the treatments to meet existing demand now and going forward,” said Dr. Edward Simmer, DHEC Director.

Just like the vaccines, the monoclonal antibodies treatment is authorized for emergency use by the FDA. According to the most recent data, those in the early stages of the Covid-19 infection who will get the treatment have 70% less chances to develop serious condition of the virus leading to hospitalization or death.

The treatment can be useful for those who have a positive COVID-19 test and have had symptoms for 10 days or less, are at high risk of getting more serious symptoms and are not hospitalized or requiring supplemental oxygen.

Health officials and experts warn the public that the treatment is not alternative for the vaccines and encourage those unvaccinated to get the shot as they can.
