Single-vehicle crash in Sumter County Sunday morning fatal for one person

Sumter County, South Carolina – Early Sunday morning, the South Carolina Highway Patrol informed the public about a single-vehicle fatal incident that took place in Sumter County around 9:20 a.m. Initially, SCHP only confirmed the incident saying that one vehicle, reportedly a Hyundai, ran off the road and struck a tree.

SCHP officials didn’t reveal the reason what happened and what caused the vehicle to leave the road, but said that there was only one person in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

In a later announcement, Sumter County Coroner has identified the woman as Pamela Herzer, 54. No other people were involved in the incident and no injuries or deaths were reported.

SCHP confirmed that Herzer went off the road while driving south on SC441, just south of Water Tower Road.

One of the reasons for the fatal incident is the fact that the victim was ejected from her car due to not wearing a seatbelt.

The coroner determined that Herzer died at the scene from Multiple Blunt Force injuries.

Officials with the Sumter County Coroner’s Officer and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate the collision. Once more details are available, we will provide update.

Stay with the Charleston Press for updates.
