South Carolina investigates more than 2,800 unemployment applications for potential fraud

Columbia, South Carolina – South Carolina officials say that more than 2,800 unemployment insurance applications are being investigated for fraud.

According to them, 2,855 claims were referred to the law enforcement for possible prosecution of fraud for financial gain during the pandemic.

The pandemic relief programs have been target n.1 for some people to gain financial benefit, The Department of Employment and Workforce says.

As a result of the high number of such a cases, new security measures have been added to combat the fraudulent claims. This is also happening in other US states.

The authorities warn that anyone caught and found guilty in fraud, they will have to repay the benefits and face prison time.
