Columbia, S. C. – The final decision about banning almost all abortions in South Carolina is getting closer.
There is a meeting this afternoon about the “South Carolina Fetal Heartbeat and Protection from Abortion Act” in the House Judiciary Committee.
The governor promised he will sign it as the bill has already passed the Senate.
The bill would ban abortion when a fetal heartbeat can be detected, usually around the sixth week after conception and before many women know they are pregnant.
Lawmakers usually discuss bills and sometimes there are changes in these kinds of committee meetings. However, the abortion ban has been discussed several times and has passed by the House, but was failing in the Senate.
