Charleston, South Carolina – Charleston residents might see officers riding bicycles in the Charleston County area starting Friday afternoon after the department confirmed they are rolling out this new unit to keep the city safe place for everyone.
According to the local police department, the new bicycle unit comes after they have received 14 bicycles as a donation given by the Atlanta-Carolina High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area organization and the Law Enforcement Neighborhood Support Foundation.
The patrol bicycles unit will be rolled out for the first time Friday afternoon.
The bikes “are intended to continue our efforts in getting officers into the community in an effort to break down barriers and build partnerships with citizens,” according to a statement by officials.
Commanders over the districts in which the bikes will be utilized will be present at Mall Park for the rollout event, which is scheduled for 3 p.m.
