Colleton County, South Carolina – All schools within the Colleton County School District are switching to virtual learning starting Thursday, January 13, because of the high number of positive cases among school staff and students in the last couple of days.
According to the school district officials, the schools were switch to virtual learning at least until January 19 when the school district will evaluate the current Covid-19 and extend the temporary measure if needed.
The CCSD will also provide E-Learning packets to students who don’t have access to internet. In addition, the school district will also provide breakfast and lunch options for students as well as some will be eligible to use district-issued Chromebooks.
The school district said their decision for virtual learning came because of “the continued spread of the contagious COVID-19 Omicron variant in our community and schools, as well as a continuous increase in the amount of our district’s quarantined staff and students, and COVID-19’s impact on our available pool of school bus drivers and substitutes.”
All after school activities are also canceled during this period. However, most athletic, band, and other extracurricular activities will continue during this period as usual.
Officials with the school districts confirmed that all school employees who are not currently infected with the virus or isolated, will work from their regular locations.
During the virtual learning period, all schools and school buses will be disinfected.
