The City of Charleston opens its warming shelter for homeless people once again, as another cold night is in front of us

Charleston, S. C. – The City of Charleston opens its doors to its warming shelter after announcing another cold night ahead of us on Sunday night.

All locals who will need accommodation are welcome. As usual, all the necessary things like pillows, blankets and food will be provided by the city. Due to the pandemic, it will be mandatory to wear face masks during all times.

All men, women and children are welcome, and the total capacity is 80 people.

The premises of Arthur W. Christopher Community Center, located at 265 Fishburne Street can be used from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

In front of the entrance, everyone will have their temperature measured and will be given masks.

CARTA will also provide free shuttle service to the premises. Below are instructions for using the shipping:

  • When boarding, riders should inform drivers they would like to go to the warming shelter.
  • Riders will be taken to the Mary Street transit hub (if boarding a route that services Mary Street) or to a connection point with a route that services Mary Street.
  • From Mary Street, riders will be transported to the shelter.
  • The last pickup from Mary Street will occur at 9:20 p.m.
