Train crashed into vehicle Saturday early morning in North Charleston leaving three dead and one person injured, report

Three people are dead and one person is injured in Saturday early morning crash in North Charleston between Amtrak passenger train and a car.

According to the incident report, the crash was reported around 2:30 a.m. and fire crews were dispatched at the scene at the Remount Road railroad crossing.

When first responders arrived at the scene, they found the vehicle to be almost completely damaged by the wreck, while the train has stopped right after the incident.

Four people were found out of the vehicle that was off the roadway. Medical crews immediately headed to the vehicle for medical assistance and to determine the injuries.

Deputy Chief Stephanie Julazadeh says three people were pronounced dead on the scene and the fourth was treated by firefighters and transported to a hospital by Charleston County EMS.

At the time of the incident, the train was carrying nearly 500 passengers and luckily none of the was injured. Right after the collision, the Amtrak train made a controlled emergency stop. Amtrak officials were at the scene determining the damages to the train.

The area is closed for traffic.

The cause of the collision is yet to be determined.
