Tuesday late night shooting in downtown Charleston fatal for one person, the suspect fled the scene before officers’ arrival

Charleston, South Carolina – Tuesday late night shooting, just before midnight, in downtown Charleston was fatal for one person, the Charleston Police Department said.

According to the incident report, the shooting took place around Radcliffe and King Street and police responded to a 911 call around 11:40 p.m.

When the responding officers arrived at the scene, they found one male victim on the ground suffering gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police had to close part of King Street while they were investigating the scene. The area was reopened as soon as the initial investigation was over.

The police have a reason to believe that the suspect, who was reportedly wearing a gray hoodie-type shirt or sweatshirt, fled the scene on foot. It is believed that he later may have entered a vehicle.

Early this morning, CPD officials confirmed there was no threat to the community at the location at the time.

The identity of the victim was not immediately released for the public. CPD is seeking public help in identifying and locating the suspect.

Anyone with information regarding the shootout is asked to call 911 or the Charleston Police Department.
