With Marine Corp flag in his hands, South Carolina veteran runs for miles to honor those who lost their lives in Afghanistan

The Afghanistan events seem to be the hot topic lately not just in the United States, but also globally. The chaos that occurred as soon as the Taliban reached Kabul and took control over the local airport was followed by the recent terrorist attacks where 13 US Marine Troops were killed.

While the majority of the nation is furious how the White House administration and president Joe Biden managed the situation with the US troops withdrawal, one South Carolina veteran decided to run for miles with the Marine Corp flag in his hands to honor those who lost their lives in Afghanistan.

“Those families had Marines showing up to their houses in their dress blues, showing up to their houses today probably, and it struck a nerve with me. I decided the simplest thing I could do was go run around the neighborhood with a flag in my hand,” said Marine Corps veteran Cameron Foster, who now lives on Johns Island.

The flag he had in his hands was the flag the he took as soon as he joined the Corps for the first time. His Friday morning run brought back memories of his time in Afghanistan.

“I think about my buddies that I was with, then I think about, just, memories come back,” he said. “Today was just for a run and all that stuff. It just hits home for you.”

According to Foster, the run was just a small support for those still in Afghanistan and to honor the troops that lost their lives earlier this week in the terrorist attack. Foster is one among those who really knows what it takes to keep the homeland free.

“I just am so thankful for the things I have here, and I think we should be too,” he said. “I know that a lot of people genuinely are thankful, and I think that’s all you can really hope for.”
