A total of 3 cases of sexual assault reported over a 2-week-period on a single Charleston street

Charleston, South Carolina – Three cases of sexual assault were reported on St. Philip Street in Charleston over a 2-week-period in April, Charleston Police Department announced.

Incident reports confirm that one of the assaults was apparent rape, while the two other reports were cases of groping and fondling.

The first incident took place in the early morning hours on Friday, April 16, when a 20-year-old woman walking alone near St. Philip and Morris Street was pulled into an alley by an unknown man who then sexually assaulted her.

According to the report, the woman left a nearby bar with two friends who split just before the incident. She was headed home that night. No more details were given about the incident, but it was described as a rape.

The second incident took place less than 24 hours after the first incident on April 17th on the same street. According to police reports, a man approached 20-year-old woman and asked her for a hug. When she refused, the victim says the man groped her private area, tried to pull her pants down, then ran away.

The victim described the attacker as man of Indian descent, about 5-foot-8. No more details were provided for this incident too.

The third and last reported incident took place on Thursday, April 29th. Around 10:20 p.m., a 22-year-old woman was walking alone and attacked near St. Phillip and Warren streets.

The attacker allegedly approached her and asked if she would like to go home with him. When the woman refused him, he attacked her and left when she said she is calling the police.

The attacker in this case was described as an average build man in his early 20s, clean shaven with shaggy hair.

The police couldn’t confirm if these cases are somehow connected. The police didn’t disclose if they have a suspect at this time.

Following the incidents, an increased overall police presence is starting on King Street.

The latest incident in the area was reported few days ago on May 9, when at least two people were stabbed, gunshots were fired and a police officer was assaulted.
