“Run for the Fallen” event ended in Columbia on Sunday after more than 100-mile-long run from Charleston that started on Friday.

The more than 100-mile-long run was held to honor the fallen military service members and their families at the state’s capital.

The group that took place in the running event and finished it on Sunday said the event was for those who gave their lives for our country in the Iraq War.

Family member and friends of those who lost their lives in Iraq were also called to take part at the event.

“I think it’s important for the surviving family members and for the public,” said Tim Derrick, son of a service member who was killed in the line of duty.

“They can see that there’s families that lost loved ones serving our country. And it’s not only for our freedom, but it’s also for everyone else’s,” Derrick added.

The main ceremony took place at the State House where families received flags that say “Honor and Remember” with their family member’s names.
