Charleston, South Carolina – While the Charleston County School District is continuing the nationwide search for new permanent school superintendent, the CCSD interim school superintendent, Don Kennedy, was promoted and will serve as superintendent until a permanent replacement is named.
Kennedy was officially promoted at the Monday’s Charleston County School District voting following the resignation of Dr. Gerrita Postlewait on Dec. 29. After the Monday’s meeting, it was confirmed that Kennedy will serve in the full-fledged role until a permanent superintendent is selected.
Kennedy had been working in school districts nationwide for nearly two decades. He started his career in the Charleston County School District in 2004 working as Chief Financial Officer for several years.
Kennedy left the CCSD few years later, and in the next roughly ten years, he had been working in different school districts in Baltimore, Boston, Bridgeport and Seattle.
In 2018, Kennedy returned in Charleston and he once again started working in the Charleston County School District.
Kennedy holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Newberry College and a Master of Arts in Organizational Systems Renewal from Seattle University. He is also a certified public accountant.
Kennedy has been CCSD’s Interim Superintendent since January.
