City officials to improve Eubanks Park in Goose Creek, the project expected to be finished by the end of the year

Goose Creek, South Carolina – Groundbreaking ceremony is set to take place on March 31 at 10 a.m. at 101 Old Moncks Corner Road in Goose Creek as the city officials are starting the Eubanks Park improvement project and everyone is welcome to attend the ceremony.

According to the officials, the project set to start this week is expected to be completely finished by the end of the year.

Goose Creek recreation director Crystal Reed said that he had a vision to bring inclusivity to parks and recreation in the area three years ago. Now, his vision is finally becoming a reality with the help of the city council and the mayor.

The city plans to revamp Eubanks Park and make it more inclusive claiming the park will be one of its kind in the Berkeley County.

Per the original plan and project, only one playground was about to be built, but Goose Creek officials insisted to make something bigger. According to the new, updated project, the park will now have features like a splash pad, two fully inclusive and accessible playgrounds for those with different abilities, and a pavilion.

Reed says the pavilion will be named after one of the first historic Black communities in Goose Creek, the Casey community.

What will make this park different from the others are the accessible and inclusive playgrounds, things that are not seen often. In addition, Reed said is happy to be working with a company that understands the specific needs.

“We expanded the width of all our trails around the park to make sure it’s accessible. We have increased shade which a lot of people don’t think about. It helps our individuals who are on medication regulate their body temperature. So, a lot of thought went into making sure that we were hitting everything,” Reed says.

The several-month-long project will result with a perfect place to spend time with friends and family and the park will be something that Goose Creek and surrounding areas residents will find interesting.
