Despite lifting the restrictions, Myrtle Beach officials asks tourists to remain as careful as possible

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina – Following the state’s decision for lifting Covid-19 restrictions, the Myrtle Beach officials are asking tourists to remain very careful despite the lift.

Governor Henry McMaster recently changed the face mask mandate. Not the face masks are not mandatory in the restaurants and bars, but only recommended. Although this is state decision, the previous rules for mask mandate apply for the city of Myrtle Beach.

Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune said she is afraid that many people, tourists and visitors, may not acknowledge the rule that applies in Myrtle Beach, during a city council meeting on Tuesday.

Other Myrtle Beach officials are also afraid regarding the case since the travel season is close and much more visitors are expected in the upcoming months, in the spring and summer.

She said the worst thing that could happen is that coronavirus cases rise as tourists return.

“I just don’t want people to be under the impression that things are relaxing quite yet,” Bethune said. “It’s active and until we start to really see a continuance of decline in cases, I think we still need to stay on track.”

Right now, the city’s emergency declaration for COVID-19 is extended through March.

Up until now, the mask mandate is evaluated in month-to-month basis in Myrtle Beach. The mayor said this trend will continue in the upcoming period too.

The current order for mandatory mask expires on March 31^st.
