Man arrested in connection with a fatal shooting at a North Charleston apartment complex

North Charleston, South Carolina – Authorities in North Charleston have taken a man into custody in connection with a fatal shooting in the early morning hours of Monday at an apartment complex.

Several murder and attempted murder charges have been filed against 19-year-old Philip Lydell Stevens, according to North Charleston police. Stevens is also accused of possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime as well as breaking into a vehicle.

Officers were sent to the Harborstone Apartments on Ladson Road after receiving a complaint about a shooting at approximately 12:04 a.m. Monday.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered that four people were inside a vehicle when two attackers opened fire at them. One of them was shot and was taken for treatment at Summerville Medical Center, where he later died. The victim was identified as 18-year-old Joseph Wright Jr. by the Charleston County Coroner’s Office.

Stevens was later determined to be a suspect and was arrested by the North Charleston police. He is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.

At the time of this writing, no information on the motive for the shooting or the second suspect was released.

The investigation is ongoing.
