SLED arrested the only shooting suspect in Orangeburg County’s fatal shooting earlier this month, report

Orangeburg, South Carolina – South Carolina Law Enforcement Division officials confirmed they arrested the main suspect wanted for the fatal shooting incident that happened earlier this month in Orangeburg County.

According to the authorities, the suspect has been identified as the 36-year-old Kamel Daquan Thomas who was arrested on Thursday and faces multiple charges including murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

The incident report indicates that the fatal shooting took place in the early morning hours on February 3 to the area of 870 Rail Street in Bowman. When officers with the Bowman Police Department responded at the scene, they found a male victim laying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim, later identified as the 42-year-old Stephan D. Harley of Bowman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Thomas, who was also shot in the shooting incident, initially fled the scene after the shooting. He was later airlifted from Charleston Highway in Orangeburg, SC, the warrant states.

SLED conducted the investigation on behalf of the Bowman Police Department.

Thomas was being held in the Orangeburg County Detention Center.
