Three arrested for spray-painting Charleston church

Charleston, South Carolina – Three people were arrested for vandalizing a church in Charleston early Friday morning, Charleston Police Department say.

Nathan McElwain, 43, Jesse Earle, 29, and Sarah Sleeman, 30, were each charged with malicious injury to a place of worship.

The incident occurred at 3:30 a.m. Friday morning at the Greater Refuge Temple Church at Huger and Hanover streets.

According to the incident report, the three people fled the scene on foot when they saw an officer on its routine patrol.

Earle tripped during the foot pursuit, which helped the officer detain that suspect. Two nearby officers were able to arrest the other two suspects.

All three have since posted $5,000 bond.
