Texas police are investigating the shooting incident that took place near Austin, Texas when an off-duty police officer fired six times following a confrontation while the woman was allegedly traveling to hospital for treatment.
According to the incident report, L. Murray was traveling to hospital because she was feeling ill. While driving, for unknown reason a silver truck coming from behind overtook her and started driving slowly in front of her.
Since she was in a hurry because of a hip pain, she went around the vehicle rushing to hospital. But the silver truck continued following her from closely behind. When she reached the first stop sign, she stopped her vehicle, got out of the car and went to confront the driver.
Just before she reached the truck behind, the driver allegedly took his weapon out and fired at least six bullets to her. Luckily, she was able to quickly get in her car.
“He just started shooting, all I could do was lean over and he hit me six times.” Murray stated in the incident report.
According to police reports, officers were dispatched at the crime scene around 12:45 p.m. regarding a shooting call. The Police Department later confirmed that the shooter was one of their own, but he was off-duty at the time of the incident.
The woman was taken to hospital for treatment, suffering non-life-threatening injuries. The police confirmed she was shot, but didn’t disclose how many times she was hit.
The victim said the shooter pulled out his police badge just after bystanders took their cell phones to record the incident.
“I’m a victim that got shot by an off-duty police officer that did not identify himself,” she said. “For no reason, I didn’t approach him, I didn’t threaten him. I don’t do anything. He just opened fire for no reason.”
The officer involved in the shooting is currently on administrative leave. The Copperas Cove Police Department didn’t provide any more details regarding the incident.
