West Ashley, South Carolina – Multiple fire crews responded to the scene in West Ashley apartment complex following a report of a fire Friday evening.
According to the incident report, crews with the Charleston and St. Andrews Fire Departments responded to an apartment complex on Ivy Green Way around 7:30 p.m. The fire happened at one apartment unit because a stove was left on and combustible items near it caught on fire.
The responding crews said that sprinkler system was activated prior to their arrival which helped in extinguishing the fire.
One apartment sustained fire damage to its kitchen and three apartments took minor water damage.
Authorities say the sprinkler system controlled the fire. “Buildings protected by fire sprinkler systems provide an increased potential for occupants to exit without injury, decrease the risk to our first responders, and reduce the overall damage to the property,” said Charleston Fire Marshal Michael Julazadeh on social media.
Charleston PD and EMS also responded at the scene. No injuries were reported.
