In an effort to reduce suicide rate, suicide prevention walk to be held in North Charleston on Saturday

North Charleston, South Carolina – The annual Out of the Darkness Community Walk will again take place in North Charleston this year, set to happen this weekend.

The suicide prevention awareness walk will be held in North Charleston on Saturday.

The walk is organized in an effort to lower the suicide rate across the country. The event organizers say the walk will support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention that set goal to reduce the suicide rate by 20% until 2025.

Suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States, according to the National Institute of Mental Health.

The event will be held in many cities across the country over the weekend and millions of people are expected to take part of the events.

If you are in crisis, call the toll-free National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255), available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The service is available to anyone. All calls are confidential.
