North Charleston driver accused of driving under influence, believed to be responsible for a fatal overnight crash in Hollywood, police

Charleston County, South Carolina – A 46-year-old North Charleston man will most probably be charged with DUI following the deadly crash that happened in Hollywood just after midnight Thursday.

According to the incident report, a 46-year-old driver of a Honda sedan crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Chevrolet Sedan at Highway 162 and Highway 164, an incident that reportedly happened around 12:30 a.m.

The suspect is still in hospital for treatment due to the injuries he sustained in the crash and Charleston County deputies are expected to arrest the suspect and file the DUI charges once he is released from the hospital.

The five occupants of the Chevrolet were family members; four of them were children, Charleston County Sheriff’s spokesman Andrew Knapp said. The driver, 18, and two of the children suffered minor injuries. Another child’s injuries were serious but not life-threatening. The youngest child died at an area hospital, Knapp said.

Local authorities didn’t immediately identify the suspect. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has not yet identified the victim too.
