Late Thursday night fire in North Charleston completely destroys one, damages two other businesses

North Charleston, South Carolina – One business in North Charleston was completely destroyed in late Thursday night fire, while two other businesses have smoke and water damages.

According to the North Charleston Fire Department, fire crews were dispatched at the scene at the 5900 block Rivers Avenue just after 10 p.m. following a 911 call in regards to “building on fire behind Popeye’s”.

When the fire crews arrived at the scene, a heavy smoke was coming from the inside of the mall, especially from one business that was completely under fire.

“Firefighters extinguished the bulk of the fire and then worked to extinguish fire that had extended into the ceiling,” NCFD officials said.

According to the NCFD, three out of four suites were occupied by businesses and all three of them were damaged. One business was completely destroyed in the fire incident, while the other two have smoke and water damage.

The fire was put under control in short period of time after the fire crews’ arrival. No injuries were reported in the incident.

At this point, the cause of the fire remains unknown. There is ongoing investigation that should reveal what led to the incident.

North Charleston and St. Andrews Fire Departments responded to the call along with Charleston County EMS.

“The business emergency contacts have been advised of the fire,” NCFD officials said.
