Unfortunate incident ended up fatal for one young pregnant woman after she was shot in the head by her ex-boyfriend and pronounced dead at the scene while trying to defend his current boyfriend following the baby shower party two weekends ago.
According to the local police department, the victim was identified as the 31-year-old S. Young, who was fatally shot with one bullet in her head two weekends ago on Sunday in the early morning hours shortly after her baby shower party.
As New York Post reported, Young was eight months pregnant with her second child at the time of the fatal incident. Unfortunately, despite doctor’s efforts, the baby was not saved and was also pronounced dead.
The shooting occurred when Young was headed in her New York home from her shower and unloading presents when she found herself between her ex and current boyfriend who were already arguing over Young. “She stepped in between to break it up and got caught in the middle,” an NYPD spokesman said in a statement.
The woman was fatally shot once in her head by her ex-boyfriend who was wearing face camouflage mask at the moment of the incident. Right after the shooting, the suspect fled the scene.
According to police reports, the initial investigation confirmed that Young’s ex-boyfriend was the shooter and he was identified as the 40-year-old J. Soriano, a well-known offender to the local authorities with at least nine prior arrests on his record.
Soriano was located and arrested last Thursday and he was taken to Harlem’s 32 Precinct, where charges are pending, according to the sources. When initially questioned by police, he said that he mistakenly shot Young while he was chasing for her boyfriend in front of her home.
The most recent was in 2016 for criminal possession of a controlled substance. His other charges included resisting arrest, criminal sale of a controlled substance and assault, police sources said.
Young’s neighbors said she was one of a kind, a generous woman who decided to raise her little sister on her own after their mother passed away last year. Young already had one child, a 6-year-old daughter.
“They were unloading the stuff from the baby shower,” Young’s friend who attended the baby shower party said. “The gifts were lined up in the hallway, and she was going back outside when she got shot.”
“I’m shaken up by it,” she said of Young’s slaying. “Who the f–k shoots a pregnant woman? You’ve got to be out of your mind.” Cops responding to a report of shots fired found Young on the ground between her double-parked car and another vehicle, the sources said. Police recovered three .40-caliber shell casings near the scene, sources and residents confirmed.
