North Charleston Police Department arrested a suspect accused of stealing packages following a brief chase

North Charleston, South Carolina – The 53-year-old Maurice Jerome Simmons accused of stealing packages was arrested by the North Charleston Police Department, the officials with the department confirmed.

According to them, the suspect was arrested following a brief chase and is charged with four counts of larceny, failure to stop for blue lights and driving under suspension.

On Wednesday, someone called 911 to report man stealing packages from homes on East Dolphin Avenue in the afternoon hours around 4 p.m.

North Charleston police officers who were patrolling near Oak Terrace Preserve responded to the call and easily located the man since they were given description about him and the vehicle he drives.

North Charleston Police spokesman Harve Jacobs said Simmons was arrested after a brief pursuit where Simmons crashed his car into another car. The collision caused Simmons’ car to overturn in the intersection of Spruill and Carlton Avenue, Jacobs said.

Officers confirmed they found several packages in the suspect’s vehicle and the packages were returned to the owners.
