Police officer fired for driving drunk and crashing patrol car

Columbia, South Carolina – Richland County police officer has been fired for violating the department policy.

According to the Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott, the 58-year-old Michael Mazerolle now former deputy was driving drunk and crashed a patrol car in an incident that took place on April 1st.

The medical report following the crash showed alcohol in officer’s system. Immediate Professional Standards investigation was ordered by the Sheriff.

“His behavior is inexcusable, and I will not tolerate that from my deputies,” Sheriff Lott said. “I hold my deputies to a much higher standard and anyone who works for me knows that I will hold them accountable.”

The investigation about the crash was performed by the South Carolina Highway Patrol in accordance with Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

“It’s frustrating, I know we are better than this and our community expects better from us,” said Sheriff Lott.
