Man was ‘too afraid’ to shoot and kill himself after killing his wife and children, shooting them multiple times because he didn’t want them to suffer

Father of three and husband of 30 years will most probably spend the rest of his life behind bars if found guilty for shooting to death two of his children and his wife in their family home few days ago for no apparent reason. The shooting will remain as one of the biggest shooting incidents and tragedies in the area.

According to the police report, the 57-year-old shooting suspect, father and husband, has been identified as W. Broyles and he faces numerous charges for shooting his closest family members, wife, son and daughter.

The incident happened few days ago in the early morning hours in the family’s Florida home when Broyles first shot his wife, identified as the 57-year-old Candace, in the living and then he headed to his children’s rooms where he continued his shooting spree.

He first went to his 27-year-old daughter’s room and shot her multiple times as soon as she woke up. Then he went to his 28-year-old son’s room and he also shot the young man few times until he died. Right after shooting his family to death, Broyles tried to shoot and kill himself, but he was not able to pull the trigger as he was afraid to.

“This case is just tragic,” county sheriff said at a press conference. “It’s just, it’s crazy. It just doesn’t make any sense.”

Broyles called 911 after allegedly executing his family but said he took their final moments into consideration. “Later on, he told us that he shot each victim multiple times, just to make sure they didn’t suffer,” Leeper said. “When he asked why he didn’t just shoot himself, he said he was too scared to do that.”

The shooting incident comes as a complete surprise for the authorities and the family’s neighbors since there was no prior history of domestic issues at the family’s home. Furthermore, Broyles served as a musical director at a local church for the past 23 years and nothing indicated that something like this might happen.

“It doesn’t make any sense when you look at the whole circumstances of why we believe it happened,” the sheriff told WJXX, adding a motive remains under investigation. According to WJAXX, Broyles daughter might have had autism, but she was “high-functioning.”

Family’s neighbors were devastated by the incident as this is not something that happens often in the area where they lived for years. Authorities were not able to determine what the motive behind the shooting was.

Broyles has been charged with three counts of second-degree murder and remains held without bond at the county jail, records show. It’s unclear if he’s hired an attorney who could comment on his behalf.

“Bill has been happily married for 30 years to Candace and they have three children, sons Evan and Aaron and daughter Cara, along with three crazy Corgi pups,” New York Post reported, according to the Broyles’ bio on the church’s website where he worked. “In his free time, Bill enjoys all types of outdoor activities, reworking older cars, and home and garden projects.”
