Two-story luxury dealership building to be built at former West Ashley fire station site, City of Charleston to review the project

Luxury dealership building to be built at the former West Ashley fire station site, Charleston’s Design Review Board on Monday is set to consider conceptual approval of the proposal, reports say.

According to Baker Motor Company, the company that requested the approval for the building, they plan to build two-story luxury building and to offer Alfa Romeo, Maserati and Rolls Royce brands.

If approved, the dealership be located at the corner of Savannah Highway and Markfield Drive.

The old fire station was torn down since the crews moved to the newly built fire station a mile down Savannah Highway in August after more than three years of construction.

According to the date provided by the city, the 1.25-acre site is currently home to a pre-owned vehicle dealership. It also includes the land where the previous fire station was located.

The dealership would be built near the edge of the site close to Markfield Drive, with the former fire station’s lot being dedicated to parking. An existing building near the back of the property and a building pad at the front of the site would be removed.

The project seems nothing but modern building and showroom. If approved, the building will definitely be one of its kind in the area.

According to the project and the plans, there will be showroom space on two floors, glass will dominate form the outside and there will be glass car elevator that will move the vehicles from one floor to another.

Baker currently operates several nearby dealerships, including existing Alfa Romeo, Maserati and Rolls Royce dealerships at 1501 Savannah Highway.

The plan can be seen here.
