Beaufort County, South Carolina – Early December incident in Beaufort County was fatal for one 3-year-old boy after he shot and killed himself, local authorities confirmed the incident.

According to the Port Royal Police Capt. J.H. Griffith announcement on Thursday, the fatal incident took place on December 3 at a home at Oak Hill Terrace apartments on Ribaut Road.

The minor somehow reached a gun that was left unattended in the kitchen drawer. That’s the moment when he shot himself once in the head and died at the scene.

Griffith confirmed on Thursday that no charges will be filed in the case.

Police received a phone call about a “negligent discharge” of a gun that resulted in a death at an apartment on Dec. 3.

When the first-responder officer arrived at the scene, he found one adult being “visibly distraught” there, later confirmed to be the father of the victim.

The father was sitting in the living room just next to his son who was lying next to a couch with an apparent gunshot wound in the head.

According to the incident report, when the responding officer arrived at the scene, there was a 2-year-old girl inside the room and she was taken out while authorities were investigating the scene.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene by the EMS crews who responded at the scene following the 911 call.

The identities of the victim and his father were not released.
