New York father was arrested and faces multiple charges for beating his 3-month-old child so hard that it sustained multiple fractures. The police said he “forcefully squeezed and held his child down, causing the injuries.”
The 22-year-old father D. Smith is charged with two counts of attempted assault in the first degree, two counts of assault in the second degree, two counts of reckless endangerment in the first degree and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Officers responded on June 3rd in hospital after they received call from the doctors for injuries that “were suspicious in nature.”
According to hospital reports, the examination of the baby showed that it suffered multiple fractures in various stages of healing including multiple rib fractures, a femur fracture to the right leg, fractures to all three bones (fibula, tibia and femur) in the left leg and possible fractures to both right and left humorous bones (bone in the upper arm).
That was more than enough for law enforcement to investigate the father’s home and dig further what really happened to the baby. The investigation revealed that the father was responsible for the injuries. According to police, Smith became frustrated and angry while caring for his child as the baby was crying all the time.
Smith was arrested and held on $15,000 cash or $30,000 bond. The baby was given to other family members to take care of outside the home. Smith is not allowed to see his child until further notice.
